What is m. depressor supercilii?

M. depressor supercilii is a small facial muscle located in the forehead region. It originates from the medial edge of the orbit and inserts into the skin above the middle of the eyebrow.

The function of m. depressor supercilii is to pull the eyebrow downwards and medially, causing a furrowing of the brow and creating a look of concern or worry.

This muscle is innervated by the facial nerve (cranial nerve VII) and is considered a part of the group of facial expression muscles. It is not a commonly studied muscle in anatomy, but its role in facial expressions has been observed and noted in medical literature.
